Memorial Day is one of my favourite holidays. It's the official kick-off to summer, and everyone knows summer is synonymous with fabulous parties! There’s always a little pressure from the family to have the garden looking good and the barbeque ready to go… and this year, I want to be ready on time! As always, I’m getting my Memorial Day inspo from the beauty of nature around me. From the bold floral colours in the garden to a graphic bee motif, I can’t wait to incorporate pieces of the collection into my seasonal tablescapes.
What are your plans for ushering in the glorious days of Summer? Will you host an intimate Memorial Day barbeque or brunch before heading to the beach? A table that’s beautifully accessorized with unique decor is the perfect approach to brunch – beautiful napkin rings, garden-inspired napkins and fresh flowers will set the scene. Tables full of casual, Summery treats – like Caprese quiche or lemon lavender scones – will easily wow your closest friends and neighbours! Or, maybe you're thinking of hosting a more elaborate Memorial Day party to catch up with loved ones. In this case, your choice of table decor should lean a little more toward the elegant end of the party spectrum – you may be serving barbeque, but the table should be fabulous! It also might mean moving from the garden to the formal dining room, where you can really show your creativity! When planning your tablescape, choose bold pieces – poppy placemats with ruffles in pink or black, bejeweled napkin rings or beaded coasters can be just the thing you need to give the gathering an elevated feel and get your guests talking!
What will you find on my table this year? I’m loving our black Ruffle edge placemats and matching coasters. The straw material absolutely screams “summer,” while the neutral colour palette is the perfect base for mixing and matching. They also look great with simple yet chic Gold trim linen napkins – jazz them up with our Skinny puka shell napkin rings that combine rustic style with a bit of sparkle. Speaking of sparkle... in my mind, you can never have too much! I’ll be bringing even more glamour to the table with our dazzling Zebra bottle opener and Coral placecard holders.
Though it feels like forever since we all gathered together under one roof or beneath one small section of starry night sky, better days are certainly on their way! Regardless of your plans this Memorial Day, let’s not forget the day is about so much more than ushering in summer and take time to give a moment of thanks to those who fought and died for our country.
I’m so excited to start planning my Memorial Day get-together this year...it’s really going to be the first time we entertain outside of our “bubble,” and I cannot wait! I think what I missed the most over the past year was watching my close friends and family enjoy time with each other. I missed the kids running barefoot and laughing with their friends. I missed the chilled Rosé being poured and easy, long lunches. And I missed getting to be super creative with my tablescapes and bar cart setups...which is always the most rewarding part of the party planning!
