I am so proud of the giving strategy that we initiated here at JB. Our “Month of Giving” initiatives allow us to put a spotlight on charities that we support and want to share with our lovely customers. With May being the month that holds Mothers Day, it feels right to help fund an organization that supports women and mothers. My birthday falls around Mother's Day, so I am lucky enough to get a double whammy of love and attention! But the thought of not being safe in my home and surrounded by love, especially on these special days, is really what compelled us to choose Women in Need (WIN) as our charity partner this month. WIN provides safe housing and critical services to help homeless women and their children rebuild their lives and break the cycle of homelessness. WIN is the largest supplier of shelter and supportive housing for families in New York City — housing nearly 2100 families every night. They run fourteen shelters around the five boroughs which provide safe, clean housing — bother transitional and permanent — for women and their children, most of whom arrive having suffered from some kind of trauma. Their mission is to transform the lives of homeless women and their children by providing the safe housing, critical services, and programs they need — like job training, life skills, childcare and summer camp — so the women can regain their independence and their children can look forward to a brighter future. And ultimately, break the cycle of homelessness. We will be donating 10% of sales to WIN in New York for the entire month of May and, as always, there will be an option to donate a little extra as you check out if you are so inclined.
